Odd that you are from California since you are posting from an IP in India... Since that just happens to be the same IP as another Member who keeps posting about printers and had an ad for an ink company in his/her signature, it seems really likely that this is the same person setting up a tag-team SPAM attack... If that is the case, don't bother because you will be promptly banned if another member shows up here and posts about ink or printer sites... We do not allow advertising here without the permission of the owner and sneaky tag-team SPAM is really NOT appreciate...

Well I don't know about it. You are right I am in India right now, but me and my family is from California. Anyway If you find the same information on the same PC then please provide me that user profile name.

Thanks,
Jeff

If you are posting from India, supposedly to ask about printers which would be different in India (access and supplies) than here, why would you say you are from California, even if you used to live there??

And no, there is no reason for me to give you that user name... If that is you, you already know it... If it isn't you, you have no reason to know it...

If you want information, it would be a good idea to ask a question... To say you want information about inkjet printers is like saying you want information about the weather... If you are serious, what information are you looking for?? If you are talking about what printer is best, there are ratings all over the web that you can look at... If you want a printer that does a specific function or has a specific price, then specify that -- keeping in mind that what is available in India may not be the same are where most of us are...

Vague requests are part of what looks like a setup for SPAM...

Hey Jeff, I'm into family tree information...

Any idea where the family name Veen [inherited from your male ancestors] originated? :)

Thanks,

How I will know when it's time to replace an ink cartridge? How can I recycle used ink cartridges? Is it ok to refill the ink cartridges by my own in my inkjet printer?

Have you looked at other threads about this in the forum or on the web?? There is a ton of information about each of your questions available here and elsewhere... The simple answers:

Each printer has a slightly different way of letting you know you need cartridges, so it will depend on the printer...

How you recycle them depends on the answer to the 3rd question... If you plan to reuse them, you keep them... If you don't, in the USA you can take them to any number of places that will recycle them or use the envelope that comes in many cartridge boxes to send them back to the company... I have no idea what options are available in India...

The last answer is the one that has probably been discussed the most and opinions vary... It is cheaper, it may damage your printer and it may not print as well... Read other threads about it for details...

The other identity that shares your IP is a very persistent one, sticking to subtle SPAMming rather than going for an aggressive push... You asking simple questions that have been addressed multiple times is not convincing evidence that you are not that same person here in another identity to add tag team SPAM to the campaign, especially since the other identity is posting about the same topic...

Nice work Budfred! :)

It has been fascinating to see this game of cat & mouse being played out and watch your skill in handling it.

Hope you didn't mind me trying to help draw him/her out.

I thought his name probably wasn't Veen and he'd have no idea where the name originates [Holland I think].

I've been trying to figure out what game this person was playing. But, I'm stumped--I have no idea:confused:

This identity, jeffveen20, has the same IP as david09... david09 repeatedly posted about printers and printer supply sites, acting as though he/she/it was asking questions or offering advice, sometimes showing knowledge and sometimes acting naive...

When this thread started, the comment had the usual vague quality that we see in tag-team SPAM... One identity will ask a vague question and the other will post "advice" with links to the site that it is really the intent to advertise... This led me to check the IP and see that it was shared with david09 and then to post the warning in my first post...

The previous identity was subtle in the SPAM posted, so he/she/it was not banned and I was not surprised to see this identity acting innocent... As the posts continued with vague reassurances and even vaguer questions, it reinforced my suspicions further... When the post with the obvious advertisement and link to a printer ink (supposedly anyway) appeared this morning, it confirmed my suspicions and both identities were banned... I suspect this one will be back, but now that we have seen the routine, banning will probably be quicker...

Wow... you guys really know your stuff. I wonder what they get out of doing these things? One thing that scares me though is clicking on a link (to check for info) then horribly finding yourself in a bad website... bad website as in virus/malware stuff.

Budfred

What they get: $$$$

Clicking on links for information: definitely risky... I use Firefox with NoScripts to reduce the risk and will simply not visit some sites... Sites posted here by SPAMmers may simply be a real business trying to advertise for free through sleazy means or they may be scam sites that will take as many orders as they can and then disappear or malware traps that will not only take your credit card info that you offer freely, but will also plant software on your computer to steal whatever else they can find... Regardless, they don't belong here and we will continue to root them out whenever we can...

I typically look for info mainly through Google since they do provide some screening of sites... However, even legit sites can have malware hidden in them, so it is important to be well armored when you explore... If you visit file sharing, porn or crack sites, even good armor will probably not be enough...

The same way as your other 2 identities... Bye...

Same IP, same vague question -- same SPAMmer...

I'd have told him where to put it...

The relentless pursuit of annoyance...

I wonder what they get out of doing these things?
They get a few cents or equivalent per click so the more people they arouse a curiousity who will just click on the link, the more money for them even if they have no vested interest in the product they are advertising. Most of the links are through redirects, which is how they keep track of who gets the credit for the clicks.
