Hi,

I have a three month old Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Li 3745.

Yesterday I had been using it for a couple of hours but left it for a bit and it went into power-saving mode and turned itself off. After a short while and without me touching anything it started itself back up. On looking at the screen it was asking me to "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key."

I've been trying to boot from hard drive but without success. I don't have a boot disk.

Any suggestions on what the problem may be and how it can be solved? Are boot disks available to obtain from anywhere?

I would imagine the PC will be covered by warranty if I return it to where I bought it from but I would like to try and save a number of files that I hadn't managed to save first.

Any help appreciated.

How many hard drives are in the PC and is it (or are they) all visible in the BIOS setup?

Hard drives detected in the BIOS setup are usually (but not always) accessible one way or another to recover data from but we need to know fuller details before giving precise advice. You might want to see if you can see any data directly from any of a number of "Live CDs": UBCD4WIN and Puppy or Knoppix Linux (as per my sig) would all be good to try out. If they can see the drive(s) and their file systems you probably would just need to copy the data to a CD/DVD or USB drive.

You could always slave the drives into a new PC but you probably don't want to do any messing with hardware if voiding the warranty might ensue.
