Hello all,
I hope someone can help with this problem. My son accidentally dropped something on top of his computer, and since then it has not booted. It only sends out a continual beep-beep-beep. In addition, once you turn it on, the power switch on the front of the coomputer no longer functions; you have to use the switch on the power supply to turn the computer off.
I've checked all the connections, reseated all the cards and the memory chip, all to no avail. Anybody have any ideas on what the problem is and how to fix it?
The specs:
AMD K6-2 500
64 mb
Asus P5A mobo
Diamond Viper AGP video card
Ensoniq PCI sound card
56k modem

Any help is appreciated.

Sounds like physical damage, most likely to the motherboard. Hate to say it, but unless it's a BIOS chip not seated well, or something of that nature, you're likely to have to replace the motherboard. Continuous beeps are never a good sign, unless they stop at 8. Then it's something not seated well enough. If the beeps continue after 8, you have a major problem. I'd say start pricing motherboards. The impact damaged something.

If you had everything...Where would you put it?

I was afraid of that. I haven't counted the beeps, but I'm sure there are more than 8, plus the fact that you can't turn the system off with the front switch.
Oh, well, thanks for the help.
