I recently got an error on my computer telling me that my hard drives are running in DOS mode and although my computer still works, it will slow down the performance. My computer told me this in the "system properties/performance" tab.

I have a Maxtor 15GIG 7200 rpm hard drive and am using Windows Me. This started about 2 weeks ago. I have not installed anything to modify my settings. I went ot the Maxtor web site to see if there were drivers, but could not find any (Did not understand there coding system for hard drives).

I looked in my config.sys and autoexec.bat files, and there is no reference to my hard drives, etc. I don't know what to do. Does anyone have any ideas????

Usually the result of 16 bit real mode drivers sneaking in from somewhere.
