I have a PC that will display the screen saver, then freeze up. When I hit the reset button, it boots up fine and the bootlog is fine, scandisk doesn't come up. Could this be a hardware problem? It only happens in the afternoon when the PC's been on for the whole day. It's really bugging me!

Sounds a lot like heat, could also be a component getting old and going bad, heating up after extended use. Continuous heating and cooling is the primary cause of component failure. It also causes socket creep after a few years of use, allowing the IC chips on the motherboard and component cards to gradually move out of their sockets. Press all the chips back in and reseat them. Be very careful not to bend the motherboard too much, you can break the circuitry. It's best to remove the motherboard and reseat the chips on a flat surface, with the standoffs removed.
Open the case and clean out all the dust inside, use compressed air available at Radio Shack or electronics stores. I use a camera brush or small paint brush to clean the dust off the cooling fins of the heat sinks, power supply slots and other places that are hard to reach. Be careful not to knock off any jumpers!
Leave the case cover off and point a small fan inside the case and run it for a day. That will prove whether it's a heat issue or a component going bad.
