I have a rather bizarre problem with my mouse. It doesn't work. I recently put together a system to run Linux on, a Cyrix 6x86/166 on a Taken PCI-597 motherboard. However, the mouse is refusing to work. I know the problem is with the motheboard itself, as the cables from the motherboards to the ports have been confirmed as working, I have tried several different mice and the mouse works with a different motherboard. I just cannot find out why my mouse is not moving. I bought a PS/2 connector for the motherboard - although I don't know if it's the right one for my MoBo - but that has made no difference (although I don't know if there is a jumper somewhere to turn this on - I can't find the manual). The manufacturer - Taken - seems to have disappeard off the face of the Earth. I appreciate any ideas/suggestions/help. Thanks in advance.

Welcome! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

If you're using a serial mouse, make sure COM Port 1 is enabled in your BIOS.

If it's a PS/2 mouse, look for an option in the BIOS to "enable PS/2 Mouse Support".

Most mice will only work on the type of port they're designed for, and using a PS/2 adapter with a serial mouse usually doesn't work unless the mouse is one of the newer "combination" mice. They generally ship with an adapter included.

If this doesn't help, I'm sure someone else here will have more ideas for you to try.
