Hello, I have an issue that has been plaguing me ever since Christmas, but now I can finally get around to solve it.

On Christmas, I received a monitor that has VGA and DVI-D input, and I would like to be able to hook up various gaming systems via Component. From what I gathered, I need to get a switch box to convert either DVI or VGA to Component, but have no idea what it is that I am looking for in a switch box. Some of these boxes can cost around $150, which is quite expensive, do I don't want to make any mistakes.

I appreciate any advice you may give which can guide me towards purchasing the right device.

You should try looking for component to vga or DVI cables, not boxes.

From what I've been told beforehand, DVI-D to Component with cables alone is impossible because DVI is digital and Component is analog, and that kind of conversion is impossible. Which explains why my DVI-D to DVI-I adapter + DVI-I to Component adapter failed.

I've heard the same from VGA to Component adapters and cables, except I am unsure of the reason as to why. All I know is that I do not want to spend an additional $35 purchasing useless trinkets that will not work and will not have refunded, and if purchasing this switch box is the only method I have left, then I would like to get it right.

Of course if I am mistaken with any of this, feel free to correct me.

Thank you.
