SOS call from a computer illiterate!
1. My system did not boot one fine morning. Last shut down was normal. But during the same sitting I deleted the window explorer files (While removing dragon software). I had to again reload window 98. There were problems in startup. But i could load it.
I have a tomato motherboard (TX 98 3D)with socket 7 (intel processor 199 Hz). When i switch on there is light in the CD, HDD leds. The HDD spins. There are no beeps. The monitor led color also does not change.
2. The following parts are fine (I have checked using the other computer):
- Monitor
- Video card
- Sound card
- Modom
- HDD
- 64 mb RAM
3. I have tried removing all the cards except video card but still no beep on booting.
PLEASE SUGGEST SOME REMEDY.

Check to be sure all the cards and the CPU are properly seated. Clean the contacts on video card and RAM with a red rubber pencil eraser. Check the power plugs going into the motherboard. After all this, boot far enough to see if you get a picture and one beep with only motherboard, RAM, CPU, video card and keyboard. Then if you have a beep and video, install one device at a time starting with floppy.
If you have no beep or video, you might have a bad power supply. Could also be a BIOS issue, but I'd doubt it unless you've been tinkering around in BIOS. CMOS battery shouldn't be overlooked either.
I think the most likely problem is something isn't seated properly. Video card, RAM or CPU would be my best guesses.

hi everyone
i have a similar problem, except it happened when my computer went into sleep. cause it was working fine b4 i go to school. I didn't turn the computer off, then when i came home after 2hrs, it wouldn't come out of sleep. I turned it off but it didn't want to b00t.....
should i try the same procedures??
if it is power supply failure, the harddrive and cdroom shouldn't be running, right?
i am frustrated http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif

iMaN: Yes, I would say try the same things. Also Troubleshooting Windows Start Up Problems (http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q188/8/67.asp) might have some useful info for both of you. Sorry I didn't post the link earlier, must have been sitting here too dingy to think...again...Also check my site below, might have some other good info there too.

I had an apparent dead CPU (AMDK6-2-350) to ensure it was in fact dead I installed it in a working system replacing the working cpu with the dead one. when I booted nothing came up. So I was sure that it was in fact a dead cpu, I then remowed the dead cpu and put working one back in. when I rebooted it was still dead can a bad cpu kill the MB or Bios?
