HP Probook 6545b, latest BIOS,
XP Pro w/sp3,
USB mouse, USB printer

Powers up from power off state, NOT from hibernate or standby,
Usually once a week on Saturday between approximate 12am & 7AM,

Programs auto updates: set to NO updates,
Wake on USB: OFF,
BIOS power on: OFF,
Wake on LAN; OFF,
Scanned for Viruses.

When I first checked the BIOS, I found "Wake on USB" checked which I unchecked. I checked my programs to see if updates were turned off which is one of the first things I do when I install a program. This brings me to the question: If the system is powered off, even if a program is set for auto updates, the system can't boot up from a off state can it??

BTW, There are no HP diagnostic programs installed. This was a fresh non HP O/S install.

Also, the Laptop lid is closed. When I lift the lid and move the mouse, nothing happens. The screen stays dark. I have to hold the power button to shut it down. Any idea why it doesn't respond to the mouse movement??

Disable windows updates from automatically installing updates. It some how switches on your laptop and DOES NOT switch it off after the installation. Try this see if it works??

I have NEVER used auto M$ anything in my life.

I think it is a quirk in the latest Bios (F06). I found a couple of others using newer Bios updates on other HP laptops that have had the same problem. I'm going to wait until this happens again and if so, revert back.
