I'm no hardware expert so I appologise if I'm lacking in information.
My PC fails to boot up until I change the fuse in the plug. It initially looks as though it will boot ( for about half a second ) before the power light goes off and nothing happens. Thinking that there was a problem with the plug/lead I changed the lead for another but to no avail. The same thing happens. I can reboot the PC if I do so immediately after switching off the machine but if left the fuse blows each time.

Any ideas? I'm spending a fortune on 5 amp fuses.

wow! ..that happened to me one time a couple years ago...
I was moving the PC from one room to another and the case got jarred..after I plugged it in it kept blowing fuses...the problem was the power switch on the inside of the box has plastic protectors to keep the power wires off of the chassis...they slid down and the wire was grounding out on the chassis...so I pushed the plastic protectors back in place to keep the wire from touching anything...replaced the fuse..turned the PC on and everthing was great..

Sounds like the computer draws too much power for the line. Changing to a higher amperage fuse is risky, but it might work for a quick trial to prove it. DON'T let it run long, only long enough to see if the computer will run. If it will, you need to contact an electrician to see about getting a stronger electrical current to the plug.
