I don't know whether the mem in my sys is ECC or not.
If the mem is ECC, can I still disable ECC in the BIOS
and not have probs? ...assuming I'm not having sys probs to begin with?

okay...well it is broke...something is..
It's a brand new sys with brand new everything and the troubleshooting list is never ending..I don't know much about ECC and thought whoever put the hardware in may not have set ECC correctly IF the mem even supports ECC to begin with....it was just a thought..

If it's a brand new system take it back and have them fix it, that's what warranties are for. If you let someone else who is not a factory certified technician, like us, work on it you'll void the warranty.
The PC Guide has a good section on Memory (http://www.pcguide.com/ref/ram/index.htm) that may have some useful info to help you understand ECC better.
