recently my floppy stopped recognizing discs. no hardware changes, no major software changes. added to this were glitches in the O.S. (icons changing, etc.) i thought maybe the two were related so i formatted the HD, it was about time anyway. the floppy problem still exists therefore if i can't reinstall windows from a floppy. i've tried other bootable discs, a new cable, another reliable drive, and most recently a new motherboard, same result, invalid system disc. the system is homemade AMD 350, ATX MB, 64 MB ram, 5.7 gig, and 40x CD.
could this be the processor or the hard drive?
any help is appreciated

Sounds like the floppy controller decided to say bye bye. See if you can find an older floppy controller card, and disable the onboard controller in BIOS. If it works, you might have to get a new motherboard. I don't know of any other way to fix it, unless the add on card works, then you might just leave it in...
