I had no luck looking for this VXD. It's not a Windows VXD but I did find a VNET internet provider mentioned. Mabey your friend installed some Internet software provided by this company and didn't unistall it all the way. ( there might be some leftover register entries)
You might look thur some of the old postings by Paleo Pete,Bigblue66 and others that explain how to restore a backup of the register. There are a few of these in the System Troubleshooting forum.
Hope this helps http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

After a lot of digging I found this, which I'm not sure is referring to the same VNET...Description (http://www.cs.arizona.edu/xkernel/www/manual/subsection3_19_45.html) and contains a lot of technical jargon.
Only other info I can find refers to multi user VRML and vnet ISP service..Not even the MSKB can come up with anything...

Soon as I come up with all the answers...they change the questions!!

Sounds Like your friend had a network card installed.
If so and you don't then Windows is looking for the card and can't find it.
Check you system properties looking for network cards.
If you don't have one and windows lists a card as being installed and not accessed
Then Just click the remove button on the properties for that card.
Also check the Network settings in control panel.
Again if a NIC is listed and you don't have a network card just remove it.
Since you say it is an error at startup, it sounds like there is a reference to the virtual device driver in SYSTEM.INI or the Registry.
The easiest to check is to run sysedit and look in the SYSTEM.INI.
Delete the reference, or safer, put REM in front of it.
This Microsoft (http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q132/0/08.ASP) link has more information if you need to get into the Registry. Be sure to back it up before modifying it.
