Hello all, i have just purchased a new hd for my computer (13gig) i have set it up as a slave drive with my existing hd (3.2gig) as the master,my problem is that no icon shows up in my computer unless i go into device manager and set the 2nd drive as removable and reboot, and it then shows up but only with 7.85gig available. And and the drive is not selectable if i exit to dos and type e: ,i am confused as to what to do,other info i have is i am running windows98 first edition and my computer is a hp pavilion, i have also run a diagnostic program called disk minder which has detected partition erros but it was unable to fix them and i dont know enough about my pc (yet) to know what partitions are all about....any help or comments would be apprieciated...thanx

Hard Disk Partitioning and Formatting Procedure (http://www.pcguide.com/proc/setup/hdd-c.html)

That might be of some help. Sounds like it's not partitioned right, or you're running into a hard drive size limitation.

THE CAPS LOCK KEY IS ON THE FAR LEFT...

OK, that said, try a few things that might help get things running again:

Use the F8 key during boot to get the boot menu, and choose Command Prompt Only At the C:\> prompt type:
scanreg /fix and let scanreg repair the registry.

Boot to windows, (Type win to start windows from the command prompt) and run System Information. Start\Programs\Accessories\System Tools\System Information Look through the menus at top for the System File Checker and run it.

Go to the control panel and double click Add/Remove Programs and look for Microsoft Internet Explorer and Internet Tools. Click that one to highlight it, then click the Add/Remove button at lower right. Run the internet Explorer repair tool.

After all of this, you might not have a problem any more, but let's wait and see. Reboot and run the computer for a few hours between each operation. Don't do it all at once.

Let us know what you come up with.
