I recently bought components to build my new computer. I have the motherboard installed in it's new case, with the cpu and heatsink and video card. After checking many times all the case led to mobo connections, I can't turn the power off with the button, only through the switch on the power supply. The power button only works once after using the clear cmos jumper, where I am then able to use it to turn it on, but then it will not turn off using the power button. Although all the fans get power, the HDD spins, bios will not come up on the monitor. Please help.
*I have no memory installed yet, is that necessary to view bios?
*the graphics card (A creative Labs Voodoo banshee pci is firmly seated.

I'm not sure about the memory issue, but is the 2-pin connector from the power switch firmly connected to the motherboard? This happened to me and I wasn't able to turn my newly built computer on until I reconnected this connector.

I have checked all the connections, for led and buttons, (connection from case to mobo) and all pins are secure. I guess some good news, is that I am hearing the singular beep, which is supposed to aknowledge that everything is connected correctly. Still looking for the answer on the video issure though

Put the memory in!! Memory is necessary for anything to happen other than seeing the fans spin...and all the spiffy lights blink on...without memory you'll never get video, it must be in there...
I'm amazed you don't get a memory error beep code.

Soon as I come up with all the answers...they change the questions!!

Thanks, I thought that was what it was. I never did hear any error codes. The reason the memory isn't already in is because it is still in shipment. I thought possible I might be able to get the bios setup before I got the ram, but obviously not. Thank you again.
