You need a startup disk. You may have one lying around, or you can make one on a different machine (my computer/control panel/add remove programs/startup disk). Once you have the disk, put it in the floppy drive and restart the machine. This will give you a basic OS that you can check out the hard drive with.

The win98 start up disk creates a temporary ramdrive, where necessary utilities are stored for setting up the computer before installation. Once you finish the install or reboot the computer without installing, your CD ROM will again be D drive.

The executable program size message refers to conventional memory. That's the first 640K that DOS uses. Windows setup uses DOS and conventional memory up to a point. Therefore it requires a minimum amount of memory to run. In this case 432K. I don't understand that one, when booting to a start up disk you should have plenty conventional memory available, since it only loads minimal drivers and TSR's. (Terminate Stay Resident programs.)

Please post some system info, and after booting to the start up disk type mem and see what the memory readout says.

Soon as I come up with all the answers...they change the questions!!
