Help me please! Here is my situation, I want to do fdisk and format
on my harddrive to start fresh. I now have win3.x and I want to
replace it with win95 (not an upgrade). Before I format I want to
make sure I have all the necessary info for my cdrom to work.
So far I have coped my cdrom driver and sound card to my win95
boot disk. OK now this is my problem when I boot my system up
using the win95 boot disk It will reconize my cdrom device
and sound card but error messages follow see below:

CD-Rom Device Driver kmecd ver 1.71
ASPI Mgr not installed
Driver Unloaded

A:\mscdex.exe /D:mscd001 /M:15
Device Driver not Found
No valid cdrom device driver selected

My system is as follows:
Canon InnovaBook 200LS Laptop
PCMCIA slot holds two Type II cards
Win 3.11 / 486 DX4 Processor
Panasonic KXL-D745 4x External CD-Rom

In my system now I have Phoenix Card Manager Plus installed
to autostart the Panasonic cdrom, I believe this may be my
problem I need to add some kind of Card Service on my boot
disk so it will start my cdrom.

I tried to copy autoexec.bat and config.sys to my boot disk
first (the whole thing) and I got way to many errors.
This is what my autoexec.bat and config.sys is on my boot disk
Autoexec A:\kmecd.exe /D http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/tongue.gifcmciacd
Config Device=A:\kmecd.sys /D http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/tongue.gifcmciacd
Device=A:\aspis365.sys /port=240 /int=5 /adlib


Please some help me...

Go here bootdisk.com (http://www.bootdisk.com/) and download a Windows 98 boot disk.
This disk will load the drivers needed to access any "IDE" cd-rom. When you use it choose the "...with cd-rom support" option.


If your cd-rom is not an "IDE" one. Then I would first copy your autoexec.bat and config.sys files to your floopy. Now take a look at the path information for the lines that load the cd's drivers.(for instance: C:\mscdex /d:mscd001 /M:15) notice that in my example the drivers are loaded from the C drive. If you change the line to read "a:\mscdex..." the computer will look on the floopy for the file "mscdex". If it's not there the drive will not be found. So you must copy the file "mscdex" ( the actual file names may be different for you) to your floopy in order for the drivers to be loaded. Any information behide the "/" is a switch and can be left as is. You can use the same method with drivers that load your mouse.

Any "non-cdrom ,non-mouse" errors you get can be ignored since in this case all we care about is getting the computer to access your cd-rom. But if you like you can place "rem" in front of any line in your startup files that you don't want processed. (example "rem c:\testfile" would cause that line to be skipped)

Thank you so much for your reply, I have been driving myself
crazy over this problem. I downloaded the bootdisk you
suggested and of course that didnt work I quess my cd-rom
is SCSI, but thats ok. This is what I did, I used this bootdisk
and copied my autoexec.bat and config.sys to bootdisk I then
edited it using the rem in front of some of files and changing
the C: to A: on the files I wanted. I also added to this boot
disk all the .sys extensions from my win98 bootdisk. For some
good reason it worked, I dont now why or how but it worked.
Now I can fdisk and format and I have my boot disk to run
win95 with my cdrom.
