Hi, I have a great problem: changing Hd's in the same primary IDE (cause secondary doesnt works), the "ScanDisk" of Norton Disk Doctor (Norton Utilities 98) told me "found a D: DOS extended partition...I've click OK, and haven't made Undo...Result: the partition table of another disk (6Gb)was transferred to mine (Western Digital 13Gb), losing my 3 lasts FAT16 partitions, and I cannot see them in DOS!!! The data seems to remain in an "undetermined" sector of my HD, but I cannot acces this sector in any way!...Can you help me to find an utilitie, or a solution to this problem???

Thanks in advance!

You NEVER, I repeat never just LOSE a partition!! The only thing you can do to a partition is to "delete it"...by design or by accident. If you have not worked with partitioning a hard drive before....learn about it BEFORE you try to make ANY modifications to your Hard Drive structure!!!! If I understand you correctly (and I'm not sure I do), you have accidently removed a partition from your hard drive. If you have done that, you can forget the data that used to be there....it's GONE!....unless you want to pay someone to try to extract it for you. The best thing to do is to READ, READ, READ about how to make changes to your Hard Drive before you start your next "project". Good luck....

By the way......you can verify whether you have deleted a partition in the hard drive by booting the system from a "boot disk" which contains the program fdisk.exe on it. You can "view" all of the partitions which are on the hard drive with that utility. If you dont know how to use FDISK...read about it before starting the utility!!

Partitioning and Formatting Procedure (http://www.pcguide.com/proc/setup/hdd-c.html)

How to fdisk a Hard Drive (http://www.sybercom.net/jtmurphy/page11.htm)

View Partition Information is option 4 in the fdisk menu.

Randy is actually right, to be honest, but it's too late now to advise you to read up on it first, it's already done.

Check fdisk, if the partiton has really been deleted, it will say "No partitions have been defined for this drive" when you check "View partition information". If the partition is still there, it will display all the information about it.

If fdisk shows partition information, exit fdisk and type fdisk_/mbr using a space in place of the underscore ( _ ) used here. That will rewrite the Master Boot Record, and maybe the partition will be seen again.
