I realize that this may be a OS problem but I thought I'd start here.....hope I'm in the right place http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif
I'm adding a Quantum Atlas V to a system that has
Quantum Atlas V....partitioned 2gig OS (primary) ......balance 6.52gig (extended) ....9gig total
Seagate 18XL....partitioned into (2) 9gig drives
(extended)
drive being added....Quantum 9gig ......partitioned as (1)... 9gig (extended)
adding this drive causes the system to run in DOS compatibility mode.......the device manager shows that the LVD side of the Tekram DC-390U3W with a yellow !
The os is Win98SE. I had this instance while installing the first Atlas........but switching ID's cleared it up.
I messed around with that on this one.......reloaded the controllers' drivers.....tried different config setting in the scsi BIOS..... extracted fresh files for the protected mode drivers........checked for likely conflicts...IO...IRQ...DMA...RAM address....none here. I had thought that the drive was partitioned incorrectly and redid that about 5 x's both as primary and just extended....same thing. I tried to run "\BOOTLOG.TXT" but this won't load.....kidda' sucks. At least I could see if a file was not loading. I did boot the system with a "clean boot"...no config.sys...autoexec.bat...system.ini...win.ini.. .startup group... and the problem was still there.
Removing the disk .......system back to normal.
But even running that 3rd disk with his friend only.....(both Atlas's..Seagate removed) causes the same instance.
I don't believe the disk is bad.......it is recognized by the controller...fdisk....format.... and windows.(not using any third party utilities for this "simple" task.)
The tag on the drive concerning the Firmware differs only in that....
The Atlas with the OS shows......rev-01B
The other shows.... rev-02B.......
Hopefully this has come up with one of you fellas...and it was resolved. I've tried all that I know at this point and am completely stumped.
Thought to add that the floppy drive is not involved in this.....seems to be a problem with windows and the LVD side of the scsi bus.
spec's:
soyo 6BA+3
tekram U3W
teac 532S
S&F mach 12 cdrw
seagate 18xl
atlas V (2).......one that is trying to be added
Windows 98SE
thanks.
