I am building my own computer. All the parts were bought retail and this is teh first time they are out of their box. I started the installation by setting up the hard drive. Everything went fine with that. The BIOS is reading that it is there and it said EZ-Install says it went ok. I then put in the Win98 CD and it gave me a msg saying: You do not have a hard drive, your hard drive is broken or you do not have the drivers for it installed.
What is wrong???

Did you install an overlay with EZ-BIOS?

I went back, and just to say I tried everything, switched the IDE cables for the HD and CD-ROM. Now the Hard Drive works! So I continued with instilation and installed the drivers for my CD-ROM. That went fine, all the nessecary files are on my hard-drive. But when I try to access d:\ I get an error saying that it is not a valid drive???

Cheeky........I think you need a "mentor" to assist you in this endeavor or you will be "posting questions" at every single step of the way....goodness.....you havent even gotten to the device drivers after Win is installed yet!!!

D:\ drive = Cdrom?

That is the drive you switched cables with for your hard drive, right?

Sounds like you may have a bad cable, try another cable and see if that helps. Also check the jumpers on the CD and see if they are set to master, slave or cable select. If set to master then you should plug the drive into the end of the cable (mainly for consistency), cable selcet either place but then it is either master (plugged into end) or slave (middle connector) by cable placement.

Also go into BIOS Setup and try to auto-detect the drives.
