Some burners go through a simulated burn first to make sure everything is peachy...you may have to change a setting somewhere to get it to either stop doing simulations or do a real burn automatically after the simulation is successful...

My old cdrw software had 3 options: simulation only, record w/no simulation, and simulation then record (I have no idea why you would just do a simulation and not actually record the cd)

If it's not a software thing, the drive may just be physically broken...I'd check out the software docs and then the company tech support, after that I'd try to get a new drive...

Not familiar with your brand of burner...is it new? Has it EVER worked? If yes to first and no to second ...make sure you understand the software and then TAKE IT BACK!! They can certainly come defective from the factory(I just had a Teac come in dead from the factory).
