Recently i made my computer, a little one, i bought a Soyo 7VBA 133 motherboard, a PIII socket 370 to 866 MHz, 133 bus... and unfortunaly a Samsung HD of 20.4 GB... everything works good, but whe time access to my HD is slow, the same with my Lite On CD rom, the only thing that is a little faster is a CD WRITER Yamaha, because i think is SCSI... i see into the Samsung page that my HD is compatible with the ATA 66, i have the cable, and my mother is compatible too... i put the drivers.. and everithing is the same, when i check with the Sisoft Sandra, tells that my HD have a great performance, well my questions is: Why i can access as faster as i want... my HD Samsung (i think..) its the problem...
Can anyone give me a reponse about this??

Either your expectations were too high or you have a real problem. Have you "Benchmarked" the hard drive? Additionally, what operating system are u using? You want to make sure the HD is not operating in "Dos Compatibility Mode" too...to do that, go to Control Panel/System/Performance.....and see if it is using 32 bit file system...if not......post back & someone will tell you what to do about it.
Do you have a Network Interface Card installed? ....all of these things can cause slowdowns. The Samsung 5400 RPM 20 gig hard drive should run quick on a 800+ cpu setup unless you have 32 mb ram or less...in that case, you need more ram.

Well, i using Windows ME, i really sure that im not using my HD on DOS compatibility mode and its set on 32 bits...

yes i know that if i put a nic my system slows down... well i will quit.

I have 128 MB on RAM, i donīt know what other test can i do....

Well.............NOW I KNOW THE PROBLEM !!!Win ME runs slower than Win 95 by a mile and slower than Win 98 by 1/2 a mile. It is much slower to boot for example than Win 98 SE.....I'm told that once it boots up(if it boots up http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif)it runs slightly slower than Win98 SE, but I dont have an ounce of experience with it.

well, not to argue but i have installed windows ME on all my pc's for the last 6 months and i would have to say they all boot faster than 98 or 98se,you might want to upgrade to a 7200 rpm HDD,also i agree that a nic can slow it down.what i suggest is to disable the card in device manager when you are not using it.just an opinion

My experience is different than yours! This is a quote from Tom Pabst, CEO of "Tom's Hardware Guide", one of the premier testing companies in the world: "Overall I must say that I'm dissatisfied the the performance of Win Me because of the questionalbe claims by MS to have improved this OS. In 3D testing, the OS is nearly on par with Win98 SE even though MS claims to have improved the performance. In hard disk intensive testing like Sysmark 2000, things only got worse as scores were clearly down in Win Me. Switching to Win Me will, without a doubt, cost you some performance in everyday use."-Tom Pabst http://www.tomshardware.com/ ...give em a look for more details.
