Yes I just bought a cdrom afreey 50x ultra ata/33 and it will not read my cds. I also have a samsung cd burner and it will work and it is the slave however it is not a ata/33. Also I know my cable is ata/33. My hard drive is a quantum cx10 ata/66 but I could not find if it could support a ata/33 cd rom. My mother board is a abit KT7-raid 100 and it has two iDE ports that support ata66/100. I have two other IDE ports but I dont know if those two ports support ata/33. I have my burner and afreey hook to these ports.Any insight on whats wrong thanks?????

Sounds like you need to get out the manual for the board and look through it to find the breakdown of the IDE controllers and channels. If you don't have the manual you can download it from here:Abit (http://www.abit-usa.com/english/index.htm). It's in the Download section under User Manuals. With four connectors and two controllers its just a little too confusing to try and figure out what's what with out some kind of reference.

That said, have you set the jumper on the Afreey drive to Master? and the Samsung to Slave?

To ME or NOT to ME....

Yeah i have tried everything. I have hook up the afrey to 3 motherboards and it does not read. I guess its defective or its incompatible. Im probably just send it back and get a asus. Man the more you try to build computers the more you run in to incompatible products. Is there like anything like on the web that shows like all the products and their compatibility, that could help me out in the long run??..Even the company sites do not tell yoiu all the info you need. Its like a maze.

I dont buy Affrey's CD roms for that very reason. They have a high incidence of failure right from the factory (new). I've RMA'ed (return merchandise) a bunch of em before I quit buying them.
