I have 20GB 5400RPM SMART Ultra ATA hard drive on my computer. It seems that it makes some noise even at the movement of mouse, let alone installation of things. While it is reading the files, the noise becomes continuous. Is it normal? It came with GATEWAY computer I purchased last May and is still under warranty. Should I ask it to be replaced?
Thanks a bunch

Is the S.M.A.R.T. enabled in the bios? If so, have you received a message from it telling that the hard drive is about to fail? I would hope that it does what it says it will do. If your HD is whining or clunking it may be on it's way out (not too uncommon even this early in it's life...hey those percetages have to come from somewhere don't they). Back up your pertinent data and call your pc tech support and stay in their ear until you get results. I really don't even reccomend opening the case while you're still under warranty unless you pc's tech support tells you to (document it). http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

I agree, bug tech support until they fix it and don't open the case for any reason unless they tell you to.
