I can 'burn' CDs without trouble, but cannot get reliable direct access (i.e. using CD-RW disks like hard drives via Win Explorer).
I have a Mirai BP1300 CD-Rewriter and have tried Direct CD (Adaptec/Roxio), File CD (NTI), and InCD (Ahead/Nero).
Whenever a CD-RW disk is inserted the PC immediately goes into treacle mode and invariably freezes. Using Direct CD last week I moved 500Mb of files to a CD-RW disk, and accessed them for a day or two, then the same old problems.
I've tried different branded CD-RW disks with no luck.
When I change writing programs I revert to a 'clean' clone of my C: drive and install from scratch, so I don't think that the different CD-writing progs are fouling each other.
Anyone any suggestions, or does anyone know of a link to any pages which deal specifically with direct access of CD-RW disks? Thanks.

Maybe if you post the CPU speed of your computer, OS you are using & amount of Ram you have someone here can come up with something for you...this is a strange one indeed. It sounds to me like the computer is having trouble with the swap file or amount of ram is insufficient...I'm stumped http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Check the DMA setting for the CD-rw drive in Device Manager (Control Panel -> System). If it is checked uncheck it and try. It seems that CDroms in general and CD-RW in particular have problems with DMA being enabled.
