I've just built a computer, 400Mhz AMD K62, 128mb with a scsi based disk subsystem. The controller is an isa adaptec 1542c, with 2 hard drives,(seagate 2GB, fujitsu 2GB) & a 4x CD writer. Adaptec Easy CDPRO reports the speed of the seagate as 788Kb per second & won't write at 4 speed. Is it something i'm doing wrong, the hardware or just me.
It's the first time i've ever really used scsi & don't know where to look for answers. Any help greatly appreciated.
Gav.

Greetings.... Based on your description, sounds like your hardhware is limiting your bus speed. The controller care you're using is a 16 bit card... if you found a PCI card... would open up a wider bus for for you (64 bit). SCSI is a different breed that IDE/EIDE... As one author wrote, "SCSI - A Game with Many Rules and no Rulebook?" (Version 1.42). Check out these web site, which I found very helpful when I tackled my SCSI "trials & trubulations":
.
Good luck.

When you don't use the name of the website add a ] behind the first UBB tag. Then it should work.
