I have a 6gig hard drive that is pretty full and I want to replace the hard drive and transfer all the data. what steps do I do and do I need any software to accomplish this?
Depending on where you buy the new drive
It should come with a utility to clone the old drive to the new on.
If the drive is OEM it will not include the program.
You can go to the drive makers web site and download the program and doc’s
It can also be done with retail programs Like Ghost and Drive Copy
Or even using DOS commands.
The clone utility is the easiest.
Connect the new drive with the correct settings.
Partition and format the drive.
Run the clone program .
Remove the old drive and change the settings on the new drive to master and active.
Boot the system and your up and running.
