Hi Folks,

A friend gave me an old AOpen computer in basket case condition.

The harddrive is open. He lost the cover for it. It's a Quantum Fireball ST 3.5. Can I run this harddrive without the cover?

Thanks in advance...

You can, but you probably won't get much off of it. The slightest amount of dust or debris on the disk surface will virtualy destroy it. Harddrives are hermeticly(?) sealed in a cleanroom condition to prevent any contamination.
It would be wild to see a harddrive work while open. Might have to try that myself. hehehe

Thanks Bassman,

Heh heh, it would be interesting to watch a harddrive run in full view.

I highly recommend it, It is very interesting to see what actually makes all that noise If you think about how much information is in a hugh photoshop image and see how much the "arm" moves it's quite head spinning (haha)(backup your information first)

Hello jan tanjo and all,

It runs alright! And yup, it's amazing how fast everything moves. It's also pretty noisy.

Good thing it wasn't up to me to invent something like this.

Maybe that's why I still count on my fingers. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif
