View Full Version : Pentium III Die Damage

Could someone fill me in On how much die damage a pentium III could Take, I very slightly Damaged one of the corners of my CPU while Building a Abit VP6 Board..The Board would not even post with 2 different video cards and one processor at a time..Any replys would be appreciated

Not sure how much damage it could take, very little I would think. Best advice I can give you is try another CPU and see if it works.

If this is a newly built system that's not tested yet, assemble it out of the case to check for a ground problem. Motherboard, CPU, memory, video card and keyboard are all you need, let it run till it tries to find an OS then shut it down.

If it's a system that has been running fine, I would suspect CPU damage.

What I meant by a ground problem is the motherboard might be grounding on the chassis somewhere, which stops all current flow to everything. Putting the system together and powering it up on a table with only motherboard, memory, CPU, video card and keyboard will tell you if you have a ground problem. If it works set up that way, it probably is grounding against the chassis, and you'll need to get some cardboard washers from a computer shop to fix that problem.
