I have a Pentium III 600MHz system. When I booted up for the first time I needed to load my operating system. I was asked for a boot disk which I did not have. I used a boot disk from an old computer which got me to a c: prompt. I cannot access the CD Rom to load Windows. When I try to go to a D Drive (or any other letter) I get an "Invalid drive specification" message. I can't get any further until I can get the CD rom to read the Windows disk.

During the boot process the CD Rom is recognized but won't let me access it. I cannot get past this point. I tried to load the CD Rom Drivers from the disk provided. It says the drivers are loaded....What should I do?

Thanks for any help.

Ken

Can you get a startup disk (config.sys., autoexec.bat, etc.)from anyone running the same OS (I assume Win98 2nd ed.)?

I have not loaded any operating system. That is why I need to get to the CD Rom so I can load one. I need the sytem to allow me to access the CD Rom. I always get the message "Invalid drive Specification" Is there something in a autoexec.bat that can allow me to have access to the CD Rom?

Here is a link to make a Startup disk (http://www.osu.edu/units/uts/publications/upgrades/w98startup.html). After downloading and expanding the file, you can copy the files to make a bootable disk that will load a driver that is compatible with most CD-ROM drives.
