Write down the exact error message. Click the Details button at lower right of the eroor message and write down the first line. Something like "XXXXX.DLL has caused an invalid page fault in module XXXXX.EXE" or similar. That's what we need to know.

Also please reply by using the Post Reply button below all the posts, not the Reply with Quote link at the top of an individual post unless you have a specific reason to use the quote.

Cyrix CPUs run hot, so if the CPU fan has slowed down, or air flow is decreased from accumulated dust, it could be a reason for the problem. It could be any one of many things, but this is just the first I thought of.

I had a cyrix 6x86 (although it had a IBM sticker on it). I had nothing but problems with it, especially with games. I had to trash it.

I hope someone else has better news for you!

when you get the dialog box regarding the error you should also have a "details" tab. click on it and let me know what the first couple of lines say.

Not sure about the <unknown> but for MSHTML you need to install updated video drivers. MSHTML is responsible for displaying images on webpages. I recently had to look it up for my machine, it was getting the same IPF.

Q258594 (http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q258/5/94.ASP) deals with the unknown message, and hopefully will help. Q276393 (http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q276/3/93.ASP) might help, it has a list of common errors, and check my site posted below, I have a link there to search results on the Microsoft Knowledge Database that refuses to post as a link here, so I dropped onto the webpage so folks could access it. It's in the list of MSKD links near the bottom.

I've found when there are many error messages at all kinds of times, sometimes it's better just to fdisk and reload the OS.

Are you sure you don't have a virus?
The problems you are getting sound very similar to what I had a few weeks ago and that was a virus. Unfortunately I can't recall what it was called but it had infected alot of files, mainly .exe ones.
Nortons AV2001 fixed it and there was much rejoicing....hurrah!!
