Got a computer the other day..socket 7 VX Intel chipset ..preety sure its a Microstar ..the bios is Award dated 96..it will allow booting from the cdrom in the bios, which i selected..when it starts, it gives the usual options to boot from cd or hardrive..after i pick the cd option the light on the cdrom flashes once, then all i get is a flashing cursor..so i changed the cdrom with a different cable..same thing..now if i boot from a floppy it will read the cd and show the contents..which is how i end up installing 98 Plus. Once done the cdrom works fine. wonder what was up with that? anyone else seen that before?

Booting from CD ROM is not all it's cracked up to be, the Win98 CD is supposed to be bootable, but I haven't seen it actually work yet...You can find webpages with instructions on creating a bootable CD but in general it's a pain. And it requires a CD burner...
I don't worry about even attempting it, I just use a good old dependable boot floppy and press on...works every time as long as the floppy drive is working...
