hi all,

I was hoping someone could help me, My partner's computer will not boot at all, she has a chaintech motherboard with award bios, 128MB Ram and a 450 pIII. When switched on, all that happens is a continuous two tone beep, no video output, nothing. It did once get as far as video output and confirmed the processor, checked for the hard drives and then froze!! I checked the video card in my PC, it was fine, i then used the 128mb ram from my machine in hers and it managed to get as far as checking the processor and froze again. It is now back to the stage where all i get is continuous beeps and no video output. ANyone any ideas as to what it might be.

BTW, i have had to whip the hard drive out of it and put it into my machine so that the girlfriend can work, however a new hard drive is in the pc now, although obviously if i cannot even get to POST in the first place this is not important.

Help me please!!!! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif

many thanks in advance

When a fault is detected before the video system is initialized, errors are indicated with a series of beeps (or beep codes). Because each BIOS is a bit different, the accuracy, precision, and quality of error detection and reporting varies from BIOS to BIOS. Although most POST routines today follow a similar pattern, the reporting style can vary greatly. My suggestion is to go to the BIOS maker and request the Beep codes. Good luck!

tried that. The problem is it's a continuous two tone beep, i'm trying as new PSU and see if thats it. A basic question but, the switch wires etc which are connected to the m/board, does the arrow go to the "+" or the "-" ?

Cheers
