Someone PLEASE help me! Thanks in advance!

okay, here it is.
My b/f f disc-ed my dad's computer and used his hard drive to transfer and save some stuff. all fine and dandy...

However, something happened and now when trying to use the D drive it's icon thing is now a windows page instead of the regular drive one. We noticed this because for some reason are printer won't work now either (it's brand new, so my dad is pissed!) we've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the printer but it still won't work. When we click on setup nothing happens, it just dings.

What's going on? Everything else is totally fine.

oh yea, we also have a backup file w/ some stuff in it on the desktop(that prolly means didly squat to this though)

This is probably a stupid problem but i dont' know how to fix it. PLEASE help me! I would be really really grateful.

I'm trying to figure out exactly what happened......

You say he fdisked the drive...so I assume he reinstalled the operating system.

What was D drive and what is it now? what is it supposed to be now?

What version of windows are you running?

What kind of printer and do you have the original driver disk for it?

THANKS for replying mjc!...

the D drive is the CDRW (Creative CD-RW RW4224E)

yes, he reinstalled the operating system

we are running Windows 98 (2nd edition)

the printer is hewlett packard photo smart P1000 and yes we have the original driver disk

Also... (we took the printer off for now) while it was on, the pointer would have the hourglass beside it at all times.

I've been doing a little experimenting and no matter what CD I put in the drive the icon changes. the icon changes to that program's symbol (for example: i put the Nero burning rom in and the icon changed to that programs symboland name, this never used to happen..is that a problem?)

The reason the Icon for the D: (cd-rom ) drive is changing when you swap disks.
Is during the O/S install it set the Folder Options to the windows default.

If you stick a win98 disk in the drive the icon will change to win. if you drop a quake disk in the same drive the icon will change to that.

This is normal..
If it wasn’t doing it before then someone changed the display options for the icons in the explorer folder options
