View Full Version : Sound Card
Can somebody tell me what could be the cause of my sound card. I just recently changed my Yamaha sound card to Creative SB Live value. It works fine but I have notice that whenever Im playing normal Audio CD only front speaker are working the rear one doesn't work. But whenever I played MP3 or MIDI file both are working fine. I have tested the speaker on the diagnostic mode and its OK. There is nothing says in the documentation.
Moving to the Audio and Video Troubleshooting forum.

When you changed the card, I assume you also changed the drivers? Did you hook up everything exactly the same way?

Yes I do changed the driver. I don't think it will work if there is no driver. The new card is for PCI while the old one is ISA
Unfortunately, sound and speakers aren't my forte. If it just affects audio CDs I am wondering if it isn't a problem related to the cable that runs between the CD drive and the sound card. Try disconnecting and reconnecting it for starters, maybe there's a loose connection or bad wire?
Hopefully Joe or Dale or someone else know more about sound...

Honestly Im not satisfied in my new SB Live sounds card due to this problem. It needs me to download a lot of MP3 file just to listened to my fav songs. The SB live card got 3 connection for CD drive I have tried each and everyone but its all same So I don't think its a cable or connection problem.
Again, sound cards aren't my specialty, but this issue with one channel going out suggests to me that there is a hardware glitch somewhere. Could be a bad connection or solder joint on the card. Not really sure, sorry.

Although I am not an expert on sound, I can remember having some problems making audio cd's work when I hooked up sb live, and I recall there being 4 ports for the wires, 3 in row and one separate. Unfortunatly it has been awhile cause I sold that card in a system i built, but I did get it resolved by replacing the audio wire. Not saying that has to be the problem, but it was my reslolution. And, I do ask taht you have tried the audio cable both directs, meaning, unplugging it from cd rom drive and reversing what end is plugged into what end. I know sounds silly, but it is worth a try.
