Hey there,

Any time I try to run MPEG videos, RANDOMLY Windows Media Player 7 (and even 6.5 when I uninstalled 7) locks u;, takes forever to get "codecs," etc; sometimes the movies are REALLY slow; very skippy... either on CD *and* when I copy them onto my HDD! Finally, I sometimes getblue screen errors with the following info... (at least what I could catch)

Stop Error: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL dxr3wdm.sys

Stop Error: PROCESS_HAS_LOCKED_PAGES

I think I saw another one with an Invalid Page Fault or something similar...

What can be wrong? I have a few ideas myself:

A> SCSI drive (A/V Code may be a prob)
B> Windows Media Player problem (not likely)
C> IRQ conflict (hmmm... I'm stupid here)
D> Windows 2000 bug
E> Virus
F> That dxr3wdm.sys driver, just from the name, seems to be: dxr3 = my DVD hardware decoder card, wdm = Windows Display Manager (I think). Maybe it's a driver conflict of some sort... I DID use the beta version of Creative's PC-DVD Player for Windows 2000 (just came out), but I uninstalled it... soo I don't know why that driver is still referenced in the stop error.
G> My 3dfx Voodoo3 3000 AGP video card drivers... they did, for sure, cause another problem... (couldn't go into standby in Win2K with them)
H> Any other ideas?

So, what do you think it is, how can I be sure, and what can I do to remedy it? I'm not really excited about the prospect of ONCE AGAIN bringing my computer to the shop and spending $40 an hour.. hell no.

Thanx,

-shadowmonkx

I have been experiencing a similar problem when watching american pie on my computer using windows media player 7. It worked a couple times to watch it, but now 6 minutes into the movie, it just freezes whole system. A couple other things have also had system freeze in last week, not just media player 7. So, I gave in, downloaded a free virus scanner, and found myself infected with some funny named virus I had never heard of. I still haven't cleaned it from my home system, I want to get a copy of norton 2000 to see what it has to say about the virus, or if it is definately a virus. I am at work right now, so I would have to wait till I get home to tell you exactly what virus.

Joe,

Quite interesting possibility... but the dxr3wdm.sys mentioned in the blue screen error/s seems a bit too obvious for it to likely be a virus, but I won't discount the possibility -- normally viruses, for me, NEVER happen. This is predominately due to intelligent scrunity of my internet/e-mail/etc. activity, as well as what I feel to be the best AntiVirus program on the market -- Norton AntiVirus.

However, I'm presently working without any such protection, as my intention has been to deal with some problems related to my HDD -- which I'm nearly done with... then burn some backups I need, then format and do my final installation/etc run! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif

Nevertheless, please do let me know what you find out as far as your WMP7 problem!

Thanks,

My anonymity discloaked for the first time in this forum *drumroll, please*... my name is Rob. Happy now??! Sheesh. :-/

Oh yeah, and you CAN get a free trial version of NAV 2000 (I bought the dam* 2001 version, but even so, I'm waiting for the trial version of 2001 as an intermediary....ugh). Anyhoo, you can get a trial version here, although they seem to have removed 2000... but maybe they intend to post 2001 soon? http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif http://www.symantecstore.com/Pages/TBYB/index.html

P.S.- It is NOT recommended that you install ANY Anti-Virus software on a computer that already has one! You should first eliminate it by using the software off the CD, then installing the prog... but you probably already knew that! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif
