monitor screen goes blank

Need some help ..my monitor will just go blank there is a green led lamp that stays on but no icons ..To get windows back I have to restart the computer then everything comes back to normal ..Is this a monitor getting ready to go out or a video card ?Please help thanks ..

Take the monitor to a friend's house and plug it in. If it works, then try and get another video card to test with.

You might also try updating the drivers for the video card, but I wouldn't expect it to be the problem. Stranger things have been known to happen though...
