only b/w when playing VCDs, whilst it's full color for playing DVDs

there is only b/w when playing VCDs, but it's normal (full color) whilst playing DVDs
I have checked the VCDs on my VCD player, they perform satisfactory.
should I make any adjustment on the DVD drive's setting?
