Double click the speaker at bottom right in the task tray, and open the volume controls. If it's not there it should be at:
Start\Programs\Accessories\Entertainment
Check the CD volume level. Should be at least halfway up.

When I put a music cd into the cd rom drive, no sound comes out. The volume is more that half way up. I can hear sound from all my other programs (Real Player, Napster, Media Player, etc.) but I hear nothing when I put a cd into the cd rom tray.

Help!!

OK, if your CD Player is running, and still no sound, only thing I can think of is the cable. The CD ROM should have a small cable with a 4 pin plug running from the back of the drive to a plug on the sound card, which carries the sound signal from the CD ROM drive to the sound card. If this cable is there, replace it, if not computer shops have them, shouldn't be more than about $5.
