Well, a few things here:

1. Are your speakers plugged into the right jack on your sound card? (audio out) If ok,

2. If you have tested your speakers and your speakers do work, then it could be the connection btween your sound card and your CDrom. Open up the case of the computer (hopefully you are familiar with the inside of the computer case) and check the connection to the sound card from the CDrom to make sure the it is inserted snug and correctly. If ok,

3. Remove the sound card and reinstall it. If this fails, then you may have to have the sound card replaced.

Try these steps in order and let me know how it goes.....

I'm not sure if I'm right or how you would fix it but it could be that the sound card is set to the wrong IRQ it's usually set to 5 I believe **me shrugs**

Click the speaker icon in tool bar once and be sure it's not muted.

Double click the speaker icon in the tool bar and open the volume controls, and make sure the volume controls are all turned up about halfway, and none are muted.

Go to Start\Settings\Control Panel and double click the System icon. Click the Device Manager tab. Click the plus (+) beside Sound, video and game controllers and see if it has a yellow "splat" beside your sound card. If so, highlight the sound card and click Properties then the Resources tab. There you'll see a list of IRQ's, DMA addresses etc, and the conflict will be marked.

If it has a conflict the easiest way to resolve it is to remove the sound card from Device Manager in Safe Mode and reboot, letting Windows find and reinstall it.

thankx, i did everything . the sound card is "attached" to the motherboard itself, there's no conflict! still, no sound is coming out.. could this be software problem?

When you say 'software problem', are you meaning a problem with software application on your PC that requires sound, or with the software that accompanies the sound card? If it is regarding the software for the sound card, uninstall and reinstall the drivers (if this be the case). The suggestions given by myself, as well as will729 and Paleo Pete cover pretty much everything that could be wrong, except for (and as I say GOD forbid..) the motherboard. You may need to have someone take a look at it to make sure that it is not defective. Any other suggestions, guys??

By "attached" do you mean the sound card is built into the motherboard.
If this is the case check your BIOS to see if the onboard sound card is enabled.

Hope this helps http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

Install recent drivers. Windrivers (http://www.windrivers.com) and Winfiles (http://www.winfiles.com) are the two best sites I know of.
Remove the sound card from Device Manager in Safe Mode and reboot, let Windows find and reinstall it.
Open Control Panel and double click the Sounds icon. Try some of the sounds there, if the Test button is not greyed out, there's a sound there you can try. That eliminates all software considerations except drivers and Windows itself.

If it still doesn't work, I'd say it's a bad sound card, you'll have to find out how to disable the onboard card, and get another card to replace it...if that can be done. Sometimes onboard components can't be disabled and replaced, and if they can, it still has problems...Lotsa luck!

As mentioned before, if sound is integrated to motherboard check bios and make sure sound is enables. And with the sound being integrated the drivers are probably on the motherboard CD (assumeing there is one). To check for updated drivers you may need to open the case and see if there are any letters on the sound chip that may give you an indication as to what chip is used. This is what I had to do. If you know the manufacturer of the motherboard and model number, check with there web site and see if there is any help there. Good luck.
