pictures and images on laptop screen looks like in safe mode

I need to find out how to reconfigure the resolution on my friend's laptop. What had happened was we had the Dell Latitude laptop on stand by. We exchange one HD to another. The one with the Microsoft Windows Millennium version and switched it with the NT version, not remembering that it was on stand by. So when we inserted the NT version, the screen said that it was the wrong drive, and insert the correct drive in. We did that and nothing happened, it was still on that screen. We rebooted the system and when Windows came back up, the screen was almost like in safe mode. The images and colors are blurry and kind of look-like glossy negative images. Can you tell me how I can fixed it back to the way it was.[

Go to My Computer --> Control Panel --> Display and then click "settings" tab and try changing the "color" and "screen size".

Sounds like its in 16 colour and minimum res.
if so right click on your desktop and go to propities and the settings tab and turn up the res and colours
