I have a Diamnd Monster MX300 sound card I have been trying to use in a system I have just built. When ever I have it in my system crashes. I started using windows ME, put Windows 98 SE back on to see if this could help. It crashed on both OS. I put a Yamaha sound card in and all works fine, but would like to have the 3d sound of the monster. Any help or suggesions would be appreciated. Thanks

Are you sure you have a CPU capable of supporting the card? I'm not sure what the requirements are, but if the CPU is too slow to handle the software that makes it work it won't work.
Could be a DMA or IRQ conflict, check in Device Manager to see.
Also make sure you have current drivers.

I have a 650 athalon running at 715, I thought about the IRQ, but if this was the problem wouldnt I have it with the other soundcard I am using? I have checked the site for updated drivers and it shows nothing new.
Thanks for you response.

The IRQ issue would depend on which IRQ the other card uses. If it uses a different one, chances are it would make all the difference in the world. Check both and see...
And a better description of what happens when the computer "crashes" might help. Lockup? BSOD? Complete shutdown? Make it through the boot process? More info would help us out.

I will put the monster card back in and see which irq it uses.
The system boots fine, and will run fine, and then all of a sudden it will just lock up. No blue screen or anything, and if I remember right (I havent put the card in for a few weeks) I have to hit reset, the control alt delete doesnt even work.
Thanks again for your help. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

That sounds like a software problem, even though it seems to be related to the card. I would suspect the drivers. Check the manufacturer's website and see if they have anything listed in FAQ or tech support, maybe a patch posted somewhere.
Any software installed with the card? Stereo rack or whatever? If so, that could also be it. Try installing it with only the driver, no other software.
Juno does the same thing to my system. Use IE by itself on a local ISP and it works great. Run Juno and it does the exact same thing after an hour or so, and it's intermittent, so it's hard to pinpoint. It suddenly locks the machine up, no mouse, no keyboard, have to use the reset switch to shut down and reboot.
