What program are you using to listen to cds with (i.e. Windows Media Player}?
Does it just do it with music cds or program cds also?

Sounds like it is probably a problem with Media player. Have you recently updated to Media Player 7? IF so did the install go smoothly?
Also check My Computer (right click)-> properties ->Device manager -> Sound, video and game cotrollers. Look for any disabled or conflicting devices (yellow exclamation points or red x's). If so bring up Windows help and go to the troubleshooting section and then bring up the audio troubleshooter. It contains fairly detailed information on haw to uninstall and reinstall the audio components.
