Uh-oh CD drive is dead

hey guys
i have a memorex cd drive
recently while i was playing red alert 2
the game hanged, because the cd drive "suddenly" got jammed.
and after restarting my com, the drive woudlnt recognise or read any disc at all.
last time the drive had a whizzing sound (disc spinning)whenever you pop in a cd
now, it just goes tick tick tick (i think disc is not spinning)
what's wrong?
hardware or software?
i think the motor or something blew
please help

I would venture a guess that you are right about the motor. Sounds like it's time to go shopping for a new CD-ROM. And while you're at it, might as well buy a CD/DVD reader.

Although I think Big Blue is right.I would check for conflict in your device manager before I ran out and bought a new one.

Since DVD has hit the market prices have fell out of regular CDROMS. CDrom's are easilier replaced than fixed.

Check it out thoroughly before you trash it.
