screen area change problems

When changing my screen area from 640 x 480 pixels to, say, 1024 x 768, I get 3 superimposed images displayed on my monitor. Any suggestions?

What models are the video card and monitor? If the video card is designed for that resolution, is the monitor capable of it too?

Thanks for your reply. I have since found out that my
monitor and video card will only support up to 800 x 600
pixels.

Gotta upgrade!!!
