A BIOS issue I suspect. I was trying to install a BIOS upgrade that I found on the Compaq website for my Presario 3555. After getting thru the prompt routine and powering down, when I powered back up, no video. I had been trying to install a copy of turbolinux on the machine too and had the machine booting from the linux partition. I had Radio shack repair it because it was under warranty and they reset the hardrive to the factory specs with the windows and other programs but the startup screen before windows actually boots is blank and when the computer comes off of stand by mode, therre is an unresponsive stage, then a brief flicker before it comes online again. How can windows show video but DOS can't(if I reboot to DOS)? I have also tried to use BeOS from Windows but the video breaks down at the beginning of that reboot. Anyone got any suggestions? Will I have toget a new BIOS chip or is there a way to flash it without having to see what is going on? Thanx

The Epox site gives this recommendation. I saw a post recently on PCGuide that said it worked for someone. I did not check to see if your system has an ISA slot.

"BIOS flash failed

If you have access to an old un-accelerated ISA video card, you might be able to recover your BIOS. Remove all cards and drives from your system, except for the ISA video card and the floppy drive. Then try to boot from a system disk (a bootable floppy with only the flash programs and corresponding BIOS binary). If you are able to boot to the floppy, flash your BIOS according to the directions above."
