I have been watching a few video cds lately, and have found thatsuddenly, the sound on these is kinda garbled when played. The sound used to be ok, and I am fairly certain the source files are not corrupted.

I first noticed the garbled sound in windows media player so I updated to version 7, but no change to the sound. I then tried some other mpeg/avi players I have, and find the sound is no good there either.

I have reinstalled win98se a coupla times with no effect. What else can I try ??

cheers

Only thing I can think of is try updating the sound card drivers.

Excellent!!
Installed the latet drivers for the soundcard and that solved the problem, but now the problem is back and reinstalling the drivers doesn't work http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif

Check Device Manager for a conflict somewhere. I son't suspect IRQ, although it is possible, I think DMA is more likely. In Device Manager highlight Computer and click Properties That will open a list of IRQ's in use. The radio buttons at top will show lists of DMA and I/O addresses etc. Check through them and see if you have a conflict listed somewhere.
