I have an IBM AMBRA INSPIRATI with an on board video card (ATI). I also have a DVD player. I recently purchased an ATI RAGE card 16mb memory with dvd controller for pci slot. I previously had an ati dvd decoder card in the slot where i want to put the new video card. Unfortunatley, when i install the new video card it does not get detected just the video on the motherboard. Ibm says, after paying $60 for tech support, that there is no jumper on the motherboard and that the card should have been detected right away. I tried a pci modem and ethernet card in that same pci slot and they don't get detected either. The only card that gets detected is the dvd decoder. Does anybody have any suggestions on how to get the new dvd video card installed???
Have you tried booting with the card removed?
Does it give any warnings that the card can't be found?

Check your BIOS and see if there is an option to "turn-off" the on board video. Reboot in safe mode and delete any old devices that are no longer used. Then once you reboot go into the "Display" icon in the control panel and install the standard VGA drivers. Reboot and then install the ATI drivers manually.
Hope this helps http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

No options to turn off on board video in the bios. The only card that ever gets detected is the original dvd controller card.

Have you tried installing it in a different PCI slot to see if it gets detected. Did you try what Scada said about booting in safemode and deleting the old video driver for the motherboard?

Here's a link to a Microsoft KB article that explains how to force Windows to install new drivers.
Q200842 (http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q200/8/42.ASP?LN=EN-US&SD=gn&FR=0&qry=q200842&rnk=1&src=DHCS_MSPSS_gn_SRCH&SPR=W95)
Give it a try.
