Do you have the newest drivers installed?
Try here for the drivers:www.s3.com (http://www.s3.com/default.asp?menu=support&submenu=drivers)
Also S3 uses a special DLL called metal.dll. It will be in the Windows folder find it right click on it and go to the properties tab. Make sur that it is the same version as the other S3 files on your system. Frequently games that use it also install another version of it (whatever was curren when they were published) and version conflicts can cause problems.
What version of DirectX do you have? The latest from Microsoft is DirectX 8.

The problem you are experiencing may be due to the TYPE of video card you have...the Savage 4 (engineering release) card doesnt have updated drivers that I am aware of...I recently had to replace that card in a customers computer because he kept having problems with it. It is a BULK wholesale type card and was a "pre-release" type ver. of the Savage Retail S4 . You might need a new video card for heavy duty gaming.

Try this site http://www.creativehelp.com
This is the Creative Labs web site I have the driver installed
for my Creative labs savage 4. If the above link does not work
Try this one.
WWW.creativelabs.com (http://WWW.creativelabs.com)
Hope this helps you out.

Before you go loading Creative Labs drivers for your S3.....I would check to see who the Savage 3 is made by........the CHIPSET on the vid card is S3 but the drivers for the video card can be VERY different dependent on who built the card.

By the way, I meant Savage 3 in my earlier post NOT Savage 4 ! Again, the "Engineering Release" refers to the chipset ...not the card manufacturer.

mango_buffon,
Welcome to the PC Guide.
This thread is from 2001 and was left there for archive purposes. It is always better to let old threads alone and not post into them unless you can add something that could help others.
The original poster did not reply to any of the responses back in 2001 and the computer in question is 5 years older now, so I would call this thread Really Dead.
