Yo I have a problem!
Just built a system for me kuz, everything works apart from the ati card!
sys spec:

AMD duron 700
GA 71-xe4 motherboard Gigabyte
Sound Blaster PNP PCI Sound card
Maxtor 10gb hardrive
256Mb PC-133 ram
Conexant 56k modem
250watt power supply

Right this is what I've tried:
Reinstalled windows over the top of an existing windows install (win98)
Updated the chip set drivers for the motherboard
Updated the drivers for the Graphic card
tried a different IRQ only 12 was free
used msconfig to selectively start windows
disabled congfig.sys and autoexec.bat
Used diagnostic startup on win.ini and system.ini
shouted at the graphic card and questioned it's parentage
un-installed the software and drivers and reinstalled the drivers only
Cried!!! (I'm a sensitive guy)
Tested a PCI card matrox mystque (I'm getting desperate now!!)
That's it's I fall at your feet and beg for mercy!! Please help

I take it the PCI(Matrtox) card worked. The ATI card as you know is AGP...and the way I remember installing them is to have the video set in Win98 to "Standard VGA" card BEFORE trying to install the ATI. Then go into win and use the software's (you DO have the ATI software dont you?)install program to install the ATI 2000 drivers over the vga settings. Should work.

When all else fails...start parts swapping!

Thanks for the tip, Matrox worked fine, and yes I have the software and drivers CD. I think it's time to start swapping, I knew in my heart, but it's hard to accept, it's such a good card when running.

Never mind back to bog standard generic cards; sigh! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif
